Raymond A. Fylstra

Practice Areas
Mr. Fylstra concentrates in business litigation, including the representation of business organizations, individuals and fiduciaries in all courts. With extensive experience representing contractors, industrial companies, financial organizations and corporate fiduciaries, his litigation practice includes complex construction cases, insurance disputes, real estate litigation, oil and gas litigation, Uniform Commercial Code matters, intellectual property litigation and defense of executors and trustees. Mr. Fylstra's litigation experience includes many lengthy, multi-party jury and bench trials taken to successful verdicts. He also serves as a private mediator. Mr. Fylstra has been recognized by his peers as an Illinois "Leading Lawyer," among the upper five percent of all Illinois lawyers who practice in the following categories: Commercial Litigation; Construction Law; and Insurance, Insurance Coverage & Reinsurance Law.

Professional Associations & Affiliations
Mr. Fylstra is licensed to practice in all Illinois courts and in numerous federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Circuits, and several United States District Courts. He is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Mr. Fylstra is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association, where he served as 1996-97 Chairperson of the Civil Practice Executive Committee. Mr. Fylstra has served his community as director and Vice Chair of the United Way of Suburban Chicago and past President of the United Way of Hinsdale Area (encompassing five suburban communities). He has also served as a Trustee and Vice Chairman of Christ Church of Oak Brook and chair of its Policy Committee, Media Committee, and Facilities Committee.

Education/Work History
J.D., Northwestern University School of Law, 1972 (Winner of the Julius H. Miner Moot Court Competition, the Adlai E. Stevenson Award for Excellence in Brief Writing, and the William Jennings Bryan Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. He and his partner were the first students in the history of Northwestern University to win all three awards.)

B.A., Economics, Hope College, 1969

Mr. Fylstra began his professional career with the law firm of Chapman and Cutler in Chicago in 1972 where he became a partner. In 1989, he joined the firm of Joyce & Kubasiak, P.C. Mr. Fylstra is one of the founding members of Kubasiak, Fylstra, Thorpe & Rotunno, P.C.

Publications
Mr. Fylstra is the author of an article entitled "Settlement of Class Action Cases Prior to Class Certification" 69 Illinois Bar Journal 24 (1980). The article was the third-place winner of the 1980 Illinois State Bar Association Legal Writing Contest. He is also the author of a paper entitled "Estate Litigation" published by the Chicago Bar Association Probate Practice Committee (February 1986).
